Sonic Pond Dip

We invite visitors of all ages to join sound recordist David de la Haye at the Reedbed Shelter for a unique chance to listen beneath the water’s surface, using a hydrophone and headphones to explore the hidden clicks, buzzes and movements of pond life in a relaxed and sensory session on Tuesday 26 May 2026 from 11am to 1pm.

Date: Tuesday 26th May 2026

Time:
11am - 1pm

Location:
Reedbed Shelter

Age:
All ages welcome

Sonic pond dipping is the activity of using a hydrophone (an underwater microphone) to listen to the sounds made by creatures and movements beneath the surface of a pond. Join David in this sensory smorgasbord of discovering a hidden, fascinating sound world of nature doing its nature thing.

Never participated in a Sonic Pond Dip before?

You will put on a pair of headphones and listen to the underwater sounds picked up by a hydrophone that is already in the pond. David will guide you as you hear the different noises made by insects, plants and other pond life.

No booking required. Just come along and get listening!
