Spring is here despite the cold snap

Lapwing are tumbling over Lady Fen this morning, displaying to one another and investigating the scrapes of land that will be their territories in a few weeks time.  Groups of shoveler and shelduck are also displaying out on the reserve.  Oystercatchers and curlew are calling as they fly between the reserve and Lady Fen next to the visitor centre.

Main observatory - towards the back of the reserve in the deep water:
Goldeneye - 5 (1 drake and 4 females)
Great crested grebe - 2

Yesterdays sightings:
Hen harrier - 1 (ringtail - female)
Marsh harrier - 1
Avocet - 14
Black-tailed godwit - 200 to 500 on site
Curlew - 11
Oystercatcher - 4
Little egret - 10
