First curlew of the year

The first returning curlew of the year has just been spotted over site.

Interesting fact - the female curlew returns from her summer breeding grounds in the Baltic region first, leaving the male to fledge their chicks.

WWT Washington's winter curlew roost is best from November-January, with numbers reaching 1,000+ when the weather is at its coldest.
