An orchid survey is underway across WWT Washington’s reserve and some of the meadow results are back in.

This year, Forgotten Meadow has 758 Northern marsh orchid and 14 common spotted orchid in flower; which is a great number.

In 2013, Top Meadow was a fantastic sight with a final count of 1500 Northern marsh orchid.

But this year it is even more aptly named, because with only a third of the meadow surveyed so far, an amazing 1435 Northern marsh orchid, 56 common spotted orchid and 1 bee orchid have been counted!

A big thank you goes to Mark, Sue, Derrick and Ross for assisting with the counts.

John Gowland, reserve manager :-)
