Latest Sightings

On Friday, 6 Green Sandpiper and 5 Ruff were observed at Gordon Taylor hide, and the 2 juvenile Tawny Owls were seen again on the nature trail towards Ron Barker hide.

On Saturday, 1 Corn Bunting was reported in the visitor car park. From Ron Barker hide, 1 Great White Egret, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Kingfisher, 2 Common Tern and 1 Stonechat were observed. 1 Linnet and 1 Whitethroat were spotted from Mere View hide.

On the Mere, 4 Shelduck and 4 juveniles, 4 Common Tern, 1 male and 1 female Marsh Harrier, 1 male Stonechat, 41 Lapwing, over 40 Starlings, 1 Buzzard, 1 Tufted Duck, 4 Green Sandpiper and 1 Common Sandpiper were observed.

Seen from Harrier hide were 2 Little Grebe, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Common Tern, 1 Sparrowhawk, over 10 Swifts and 1 Greater Black-Backed Gull.

Over on Woodend Marsh, 1 Bittern, 6 Oystercatcher, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Hobby, 1 Reed Warbler, 5 Reed Bunting, 4 Avocets and 1 Mediterranean Gull were reported.

Today on the Mere, there are around 35 Black-Tailed Godwits present. There are also approximately 6 Kestrels flying around the reserve. 1 Jay was spotted in the trees at the end of the Reedbed Walk, and 2 Bullfinch were seen at Janet Kear hide.

2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Kingfisher, 2 Ruff, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin and 1 Peregrine have been observed from Gordon Taylor hide.

From Tomlinson hide, 1 Curlew was seen.
