Latest Sightings
As the warm weather continues, Martin Mere is teeming with wildlife, with a variety of creatures like butterflies, dragonflies, mammals, and birds visible to observe.
Today on the Mere, 2 Common Sandpiper, 1 Hobby, 6 Common Tern, 2 Swift, 1 Grey Heron and 1 Ruff have been observed. The Bittern was seen flying over towards the Reedbeds after returning from her morning feed.
From the Gordon Taylor hide, visitors can spot 1 Green Sandpiper and 1 Little Ringed Plover. At Ron Barker hide, 4 Marsh Harrier have been observed.
Over the weekend, notable sightings included a Spotted Flycatcher and Greenfinches at the Janet Kear hide, a Whitethroat at Mere View hide, a Reed Bunting and over 10 Cattle Egrets at the United Utilities hide.
At the Discovery hide and viewing platforms, observers reported 1 Ringed Plover, 3 Common Tern, 3 Oystercatcher, 2 Shoveler, 8 Gadwall, 19 Black-Tailed Godwit, 57 Lapwing, 25 Starlings, 4 Teal and 1 Little Egret.
From Harrier hide, sightings included 3 Great Crested Grebe, 3 Little Grebe, 5 House Martin, 2 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls, 6 Tufted Ducks and 2 Pochard.
The Kingfishers have been showing well from the Ron Barker hide, where people also spotted Swallows, House Martins, 22 Lapwing, 3 Oystercatcher, 6 Shoveler, 2 Common Tern, and 2 Whooper Swans.
On Woodend Marsh, sightings include 8 Avocets, 42 Black-Tailed Godwits, over 100 Starlings, more than 50 Lapwing, 10 Shelducks, 1 Buzzard, 2 Sedge Warblers, 1 Stock Dove and 2 Wren.
