Latest Sightings

7 Grey Heron and 3 Spoonbill have been recorded on the reserve - you might spot these birds in flight from the United Utilities hide.

On Friday morning, 150 Black-Tailed Godwits were seen from Harrier hide, as well as 1 Buzzard. The Bittern was spotted flying over Woodend Marsh towards the Reedbed Walk.

8 Common Tern and 2 Mediterranean Gulls were seen on the Mere, amongst the Black-Headed Gulls.

On Saturday, From Gordon Taylor hide, 12 Avocets including 6 juveniles were recorded, along with 2 Grasshopper Warblers, 2 Linnets, 6 Sedge Warblers, 2 Reed Warblers, 2 House Martins and 4 Whitethroat.

From Harrier hide, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 19 Tufted Ducks, 2 Pochard, 5 Lesser-Black Backed Gulls, 1 Common Gull and 1 Herring Gull were observed.

2 Little Egret, 2 Mute Swans, 15 Swallows, 1 Meadow Pipit and 1 Goldcrest were seen from Ron Barker hide.

Around 6 Swifts were sighted outside Janet Kear hide, and 2 Bullfinches were seen on the feeders. 1 Common Sandpiper was seen on the Mere.

On Sunday, 3 Curlew Sandpiper were sighted on the Mere.

Today, there has been 5 Cattle Egret, 1 Cormorant, 3 Common Tern, 2 Ruff, 1 Redshank, 5 Ringed Plovers, 5 Oystercatchers, 2 Wigeon, 4 Shovelers, 4 Sand Martins, 6 Swallows, 2 Avocets, 2 Buzzards, 1 Kestrel and a male Marsh Harrier.

1 Blackcap was spotted on the nature trail. 1 Hobby has just been sighted at the back of the Mere.
