Cape Barren geese join the flock!
We've got fantastic news to share with you – our wildlife collection just got even more amazing with the arrival of Cape Barrens geese!
Say hello to our three new residents, a brother and two sisters, just four months old, who came all the way from our Martin Mere Centre.
To help you get to know them better here are our top 3 Cape Barren facts!
- They are often affectionately referred to as pig geese due to their unique call that sounds like a pig grunting.
- Amazingly they are able to drink saltwater which allows them to stay on off-shore islands throughout the year
- Once on the verge of extinction, but following conservation efforts their numbers have bounced back
