WWT Llanelli will be closed for one day on Wednesday 20 May.

We’re sorry for this short-term inconvenience, but this date has been chosen to allow our team to rearrange the shop and entrance ahead of the upcoming Welcome Project construction, and get everything ready in time for a fantastic May half-term experience. We will reopen on Thursday 21 May as usual. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Close alert

Recent Sightings 6th-13th August

Highlights: Avocet, Cattle Egret, Marsh Harrier, Ruff, Yellow-legged Gull

Marsh Scrapes

The Marsh Scrapes habitat has seen lots of action lately with the weekly count recording good numbers of commonly seen wading species: 570 Black-tailed Godwits, 96 Redshank, 47 Greenshank; visitors also sighted some rarer birds with a Spotted Redshank and a Ruff on Friday; whilst on Saturday a Avocet was seen here and a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull on Sunday.

Millennium Wetlands

On Wednesday a Marsh Harrier was seen flying over the woodland opposite the Canoe Safari; a Great White Egret was seen feeding with Little Egrets on the edges of Deep Water Lake on Monday; whilst a Cattle Egret was sighted from the Heron's Wing Hide on Friday; and juvenile Kingfishers are still frequently being sighted perching in front of the Sir Peter Scott Hide.

Work this week included our Wednesday volunteers donning chest waders and getting in the Reedbed channels to clear the encroaching vegetation, these reedbed channels offer refuge to wildlife such as wildfowl and it you are lucky enough you may be able to spot animals using or even crossing the channels.
