WWT Llanelli will be closed for one day on Wednesday 20 May.

We’re sorry for this short-term inconvenience, but this date has been chosen to allow our team to rearrange the shop and entrance ahead of the upcoming Welcome Project construction, and get everything ready in time for a fantastic May half-term experience. We will reopen on Thursday 21 May as usual. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Highlights - Cattle Egret, Great White Egret, Green Sandpiper, Red Kite and Short Eared Owl!

British Steel Hide

All three egret species have been out on the salt marshes recently including up to five cattle egrets! The number of knot has yet again increased this week. On still days, a kingfisher can been seen hovering and diving right outside the British Steel hide and a peregrine has been hunting too. Two green sandpipers have been switching between the saline and freshwater lagoon. Reserve staff have also recorded 5 eels in the freshwater lagoon which is always good to hear. A beautiful red kite has been flying over the Dafen scrapes and the grounds.

Millennium Wetlands

A short eared owl was seen quartering over head, which is second of the year already! On deep water lake there has been a pochard and a very late sighting of a garganey. There have been lots of grey wagtails on the reserve this week too. Now that the clocks have changed, the reserve is supplying some stunning views of dramatic early sunsets.
