Recent sightings 30th June - 2nd July

Highlights include, Knot, Sandwich tern and Small red-eyed damselfly

British Steel hide

324 black-tailed godwits have been seen feeding from the Steel hide on Tuesday with a few knot hiding in the flock. Our three spoonbill continue to show well in front of the hides. The black-headed gull fledglings have begun to disperse across the whole site and out onto the estuary. They appear to have had a good year with most rearing between 1 and 3 chicks. Swallows continue to feed out on the salt marsh and linnet are feeding in the hedgerows near the hides. A sandwich tern was been seen flying over the Dafen scrapes on Saturday.

Millennium Wetlands

Large numbers of gadwall and mallard continue to shelter on deep water lake as they begin to moult into eclipse. Family's of tufted duck are seen darting in and out of the sedges and diving in deep water lake. Little grebe are often seen fishing from the fishing platforms. There are 3 juvenile pochard often seen in front of the Peter Scott hide.

Reed warblers continue to sing in the reedbeds near the Welsh water hide. Many of the warblers on site are often seen feeding newly fledged young in the hedgerows by center path.

Painted lady and ringlet butterflys are now a common occurance. We have also had sightings of small red-eyed damselfly by the fishing platforms.
