WWT Llanelli will be closed for one day on Wednesday 20 May.

We’re sorry for this short-term inconvenience, but this date has been chosen to allow our team to rearrange the shop and entrance ahead of the upcoming Welcome Project construction, and get everything ready in time for a fantastic May half-term experience. We will reopen on Thursday 21 May as usual. Thank you for your support and understanding.

British Steel Hide

There have been very good numbers of black -tailed godwit on site this week and its wonderful to see them coming into their beautiful breeding plumage. There have also been increasing numbers of redshank with a spotted redshank in amongst them. A pair of buzzards have been seen on the dafen scrapes near to where they nested in previous years and a red kite has been gliding over head a lot too. Brimstone butterflies are particularly abundant at this end of the wetlands. A pair of greylags have built a nest in the marsh garden, although it took us a while to spot because its expertly camouflaged.

Millennium Wetlands

Mammals have been very active on the reserve - we've had badgers on our camera traps which you may have seen footage of on facebook and we've also got hedgehogs which can appear on our bird feeder live-stream at night. A lot of summer visitors have been spotted this week including sand martins, blackcap and willow warbler, although you are more likely to hear the beautiful songs of the latter two, rather than see them. Other species of butterfly to emerge this week have been peacocks and red admirals. We now have over five established lapwing nests and although we thought the kingfisher had left site, we've started seeing them on a different bank so hopefully this attempt at nest digging will be more successful.
