Recent sightings 22nd-27th October 2023

Highlights: Short-eared Owl, Merlin, Cuckoo Ruff

Saline Lagoon and Dafen Scrapes:

This week there have been some very exciting sightings out on the saline lagoon visible from the British steel Hide, A Short eared owl was briefly seen early on 21st October as well as a Merlin on the same day. Wigeon, Teal and Shoveler were the most common ducks observed on the Dafen scrapes (27th/10), with a small number of Black-tailed Godwits and 2 Ruff (27/10). Over the Grounds a Red Kite has been seen through out the week (24/10 and 26/10).

Millennium wetlands:

On the Millennium wetlands this week there have also been some exciting sightings wetlands this week, a Cuckoo was seen over the Deep water lake in front of the Sir Peter Scott and Herons wing hide (25/10). A Sparrow hawk has been regularly seen on the southern loop leaving the wooded section between vole city and the Bittern reed bed. Snipe continue to be seen from the Sir Peter Scott Hide.
