Recent Sightings 19th-25th June
Highlights - Caspian Tern, Willow Tit, Barnacle Geese, Ruff and Green Sandpiper.

Of course, the highlight this week has been the Caspian tern that is showing of his beautiful breeding plumage and big red beak on the saline lagoon. This species is a very rare visitor to Britain and this is only the second county record for Carmarthenshire (the first one being here too)! Other great sightings include a ruff in partial breeding plumage and a pair of barnacle geese. Some adult mediterranean gulls have started using the marsh scrapes, providing much better views of their striking colours. We’re hoping to see fledgling lapwings on the dafen scrapes in the coming weeks.
Millennium Wetlands
The highlight from the reserve this week has to be the juvenile willow tit spotted amongst other species in a flock. A green sandpiper was on deep water lake, which is hopefully the first of many wader species passing through. There are lots of tufted duckling broods all over site now. Ringlet and large skipper butterflies have been seen for the first time this week. Lizards and grass snakes can also be found sunning themselves on grassy banks all over the millennium wetlands on good weather days.
