Recent sightings 17th - 19th April

Highlights include, Sedge Warbler, Egyptian goose and Nuthatch

British Steel Hide

Large numbers of Shelduck can be seen around the Salt marsh and the Dafen scrapes. Lesser whitethroat can be heard calling in the hedgerows. Small groups of Redshank have been seen around the saline lagoons feeding. An Egyptian goose has been seen feeding on the Dafen scrapes. Our colony of Black-headed gulls have begun to build nest across the reserve.


Millennium wetlands

We have had an influx of Sedge warblers in the reedbeds and Lesser whitethroats around the reserve, newly returned from their winter migration. Large numbers of Black-tailed godwit can be seen from the Herons wing hide. We continue to have a range of duck species around the reserve, now mostly paired up with some nesting. We have some mallard ducklings around deep water lake as well as pairs of Gadwall, Teal, Shelduck, Tufted duck and Shoveler. Two clutches of Lapwing chicks have hatched and we are hoping for more clutches to hatch within the next week. Chiffchaff and Blackcap continue to sing around the northern loop. Swallows have been seen feeding around Deep water lake. A Little ringed plover was seen feeding on the cockleshell islands. A Nuthatch was seen from the Herons wing hide on Wednesday.

Large numbers of Butterfly's have been seen around the reserve including, Orange tip, Peacock, Green-veined white, Speckled wood and Brimstone.
