WWT Llanelli will be closed for one day on Wednesday 20 May.

We’re sorry for this short-term inconvenience, but this date has been chosen to allow our team to rearrange the shop and entrance ahead of the upcoming Welcome Project construction, and get everything ready in time for a fantastic May half-term experience. We will reopen on Thursday 21 May as usual. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Recent Sightings 10th -16th September

Highlights: Spoonbill, Curlew Sandpiper, Osprey, Glossy Ibis, Clouded Yellow

Our High Tide Event was a successful evening with sightings of Spoonbill, Curlew Sandpiper, Ruff, Kingfisher and Spotted Redshank. It was great to see birders of all abilities and ages come together to appreciate nature. The Spoonbill can still be seen on the Marsh Scrapes, with more expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

Some returning spectacles include the Osprey, which was again seen from the British Steel Hide on Monday, attempting to fish along the Estuary. As well as the Glossy Ibis, which was putting on a show in front of the Peter Scott hide on Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday also brought us new sightings of a Sparrowhawk alongside a Goshawk on the Millennium Wetlands.

The changing of the seasons has seen more Gadwall and Wigeon returning to us, with flocks of almost 100 of each seen so far. Although the season's coming to an end, there's still a good number of butterflies around. A Clouded Yellow butterfly was seen near the Heron's Wing Hide on the Centre Path, in addition to Small Copper, Comma and a large number of Speckled Wood counted on the butterfly survey Friday afternoon.
