Recent sightings 10th - 12th July

Highlights include, Teal, Shoveler and Grass snake

British Steel hide

Large numbers of black-tailed godwit and curlew are seen feeding in front of the Steel hide at high tide. Groups of 30 redshank are seen feeding on the saline lagoons. Our four resident spoonbill continue to show well in front of the hide. The black-headed gull colony has mostly fledged now and moved on beyond the reserve.

Millennium Wetlands

Large groups of mallard and gadwall are often seen in front of the Herons wing hide feeding. Two pairs of shoveler have been seen from the Peter scott hide, as well as two teal. Some young lapwing where seen feeding on the main island. The sparrowhawk are very active hunting recently often seen near the canoe safari. Chiffchaff and blackcap continue to sing around the northern loop of the reserve. Young song thrush are often seen feeding on snails under the herons wing hide.

Meadow brown, red admiral, painted lady and ringlet butterflys are seen regularly around the flower meadows on site. Cinnabar moths are often seen in the day and their catapillars can be see on ragwort plants.

Grass snake and slow worms are seen basking on the paths around the reserve. Common lizard are seen basking on the log piles.
