Recent Sightings 13th April 2026

The following sightings were taken from the reserve at Castle Espie during a high tide. The bird of the week is the Sedge Warbler.  The first of these summer visitors have made their way back to the reserve again.

Estuary - visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Black-headed Gull 11, Light-bellied brent goose 1, Redshank 1, Shelduck 6, Gadwall 2

Main lake - visible from Sensory Garden and Visitor Centre

Mallard 2, Teal 2, Tufted Duck 3, Shoveler 2 (Pair), Moorhen 1, Lesser black-backed gull 2, Black-headed gull 6, Little grebe 1

Shingle Bank - visible from Sensory Garden and Visitor Centre

Black-headed gull 16, Herring gull 1, Cormorant 1

Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Blackbird,  Redshank 6, Sedge warbler 1

Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannóg
